The success of all wall station surveys is highly dependent on the type of instrument used. The instrument must have a coaxial EDM and have good angular accuracy with high EDM accuracy.
Leica Geosystems has been making coaxial reflectorless total stations since the late 1990's. These instruments have proven themselves over this time and are listed below.
Leica Nova TS50 or MS50
2013 to current
EDM accuracy : 0.6mm + 1ppm or 1 mm + 1.5 ppm respectively
The latest high end offering from Leica Geosystems.
Leica Viva TS15
2010 to current
EDM accuracy : 1 mm + 1.5 ppm
Recommended models include the TS15I, TS15P and TS15 and come in 1, 2, 3 and 5 second variants. These are the current models with modern user interface and are available from your local Leica Geosystems dealer.
Leica System 1200 and 1200+
2007 to 2010
EDM accuracy : 1 mm + 1.5 ppm
2004 to 2007
EDM accuracy : 2 mm + 2 ppm
Recommended models include the TCRP1201, 1202, 1203 and 1205 and the TCRA range. The EDM's came with R100, R400 and R1000 any of these reflectorless ranges are adequate for underground surveying.
Leica 1100 series
1998 to 2005
EDM accuracy : 2 mm + 2 ppm
Recommended models include the TCRA1101, 1102, 1103 and 1105 and models with XR edm's and PS (power search). These instruments are now quite old but if you are after a bargain then they will do the job.
